Teza: The Sensor Trash Can Revolutionizing Home Convenience

Upella's Award-Winning Design Marries Functionality and Aesthetics

Teza, an innovative sensor trash can by Upella, is transforming the way families manage waste at home. Inspired by the luster and beauty of a gemstone, this design combines practicality and elegance, offering a unique solution to common household problems.

Teza's design is a product of careful consideration and meticulous research. Upella's design team, including Jianqiang Wang, Shaohui Pan, Yanyang Huang, Haifeng Li, Jinzhi Mo, and Jianrong Li, drew inspiration from the square shape of a carved gemstone. The result is a stainless steel trash can with a glossy lid and body that subtly changes color under different light perspectives, much like a gemstone.

But Teza is more than just a pretty face. It's a smart, sensor-controlled trash can that opens swiftly and closes silently. Users can activate a stay-open mode by simply hovering their hand or knee over the sensor. This feature, combined with an increased sensing range, allows for easy, one-step trash disposal.

Teza also addresses a common household nuisance - cockroaches. The trash can's bottom insert, shaped like a drain-strainer, houses a bait compartment that attracts cockroaches while keeping children safe from any insecticides used.

The realization of Teza's design involved the use of color painting stainless steel and engineering plastic, along with infrared sensor technology. The trash can comes in two sizes: a 12L version measuring 244mm x 244mm x 423mm, and an 8L version measuring 244mm x 244mm x 309mm.

Teza's design process, which spanned from December 2017 to July 2018, was not without its challenges. The design team had to find a way to create multiple sensing zones without adding more sensors, which would increase cost and standby power consumption. After trying different calculation methods and comparing results, they found the most reasonable solution.

Teza's innovative design and functionality have not gone unnoticed. It was awarded Silver in the A' Home Appliances Design Award in 2019, a prestigious recognition given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. With Teza, Upella has successfully created a product that not only serves a practical purpose but also adds a touch of elegance to any home.
